Lately there is a tendency for increased interest to wooden houses and it is not under the influence of fashion but a conscious choice in favor of the best material for construction of homes - ecological, clean, nice and warm. Unlike the brick and concrete, wood is light enough (about three times lighter) and does not need complicated reinforcement or additional costs to build the foundation on soft terrains.
Due to the elasticity of the material, its longitudinal and transverse joints and auxiliary bonds with metal studs, wooden houses are said to be some of the best earthquake-resistant constructions.
The wood is not only an environmentally friendly material, a gift from nature but it also has some other unquestionable advantages. It is a material that has better thermal and acoustic properties compared to the conventional building construction.
Panel houses consists of a wood frame which has timber boards (OSB) on both sides and glass wool filling, which has sound and thermal parameters identical to those of the wood. These houses also have better features compared to conventional construction.
It is well known that a wooden layer having a thickness of 15 cm has the same coefficient of thermal insulation / heat transfer / as a brick wall that is 60 cm thick, as a result of which the temperature of the premises remains higher in the winter and lower in the summer. For that reason wooden houses of the type " Log home " are defined as low energy houses.
The wood absorbs, where it is necessary, or releases excessive moisture and thus regulates humidity and oxygen balance in the premises. Adding the fact that the wood does not cause allergies wooden houses may create comfortable and healthy living environment. The wood is a stable and durable material. It is proven by the fact that there are plenty of houses and churches made of logs on the territory of the former Soviet Union, built about 200 years ago and nowadays the durability will be even longer due to the modern technologies allowing proper treatment and reliable protection of the wood.
Modern technologies in combination with high quality construction of wooden houses can shorten the period of construction several times compared to convectional building and significantly simplify this complicated construction process, because there are no wet processes and residual moisture and seasonality does not affect the quality of the construction works. Along with the advantages of this type of construction, it is necessary to highlight l its disadvantages, namely the inflammability and the impact of moisture on wood. It shall be noted that the fire resistance of wooden houses is not worse than that of monolithic or panel homes.
It is well known that 99% of homes burn inside as a result of short circuit in the electrical installation, defect in the household appliances or negligence of the owners and therefore both monolithic and wooden houses burn in the same way. Moreover, now there are many impregnation products for wood, which can protect it from fire. Wood may darken, its surface may burn but it will not combust at all. The most common reason for the destruction of the wood is humidity, as a result of which mold and mildew appears, but if you protect the wood from exposure to moisture, such destruction shall disappear. This can be achieved due to the special chemical products for wood treatment.
